Here are some of the issues at Wendy Park/Whiskey Island.

(1) The Old Coast Guard Station: the City has $500,000 for clean up and roof replacement. Last year $50,000 was spent on clean up and removal of the “boat house” roof. The Station grounds are open to the public. The roof to the main building is still in atrocious shape and still exposing the building to the elements.

(2) Connection to the West Bank of the Flats: Cuyahoga County, Parkworks, the Wendy Park Foundation, and others have applied for a grant to design a bridge (ped/bike-no cars) that would span over the railroad tracks near the river. This would lead to the Willow Street Bridge which would be upgraded. This would effectively connect Wendy Park to Nautica.

(3) Wendy Park to Canal Basin: an abandoned railroad corridor was purchased late last year by the Trust for Public Land and transferred to Parkworks. The corridor goes from the Stonebridge Condos to roughly under the Main Ave bridge and will connect the Towpath Trail of the Ohio Canal Corridor with Wendy Park.

(4) Wendy Park to the East Bank: no action planned, need to connect to downtown and north coast harbor, trail connection thru Port shown on Port’s Draft Plan of Aug 09

(5) Wendy Park to Edgewater Park: County upgrade of road in 2008 (Ed Hauser Way). Big improvement-still needs work as the road is two lanes and barely accommodates ped/bikes
